Your Guides: Kimberly & Gregg

After graduating from the Somatic Psychology/ Dance Movement Therapy program at  Naropa University, Kimberly and Gregg both have dedicated themselves to immersing themselves in ways of indigenious wisdom teachings, which has led them to travel to the world, each on their own separate journeys.  Tribal based cultures have offered meaningful ways to help process grief with the support of community, an experience that our Western cultures often lack.  Kimberly experienced this first hand in her studies with Malidoma Some, a healer from Burkina Faso, who led the group in rituals of Earth, Fire, Water and Air in order to heal in the context of community.

In this retreat, Kimberly and Gregg will offer movement, ritual and perspectives from indigenous cultures to acknowledge our interconnectness with all of life. With the support of the healing energies of Kauai, Kimberly and Gregg will share guided healing movement sessions that are inspired by these ancient wisdom practices.

Kimberly Gladysz, MA, LPCC is a licensed professional mental health counselor in California, Montana and Hawaii. Over the past 20 years, she has woven together her love for the dharma, dancing and intuition.  She studied Ashtanga yoga with Richard Freeman in Boulder CO where she developed an awe of the power of yoga for awakening and transformation. She has taught yoga classes and dance classes for the past 25 years to people of all ages and worked as a licensed elementary school teacher. Inspired by dances of Guinea West Africa, the Orishas of Brazil and  Polynesian dance, she offers a creative blend of movement styles and a reverence for the cultures from which they were born.  In her most recent project, she offers emotional alchemy tools and ways to sharpen intuitive skills in her online course “Lighten Up in Divine Flow”.  Kimberly shares wisdom imparted by The Golden Assembly of Light Beings in her individual intuitive guidance sessions and works with  the therapeutic support clients can receive in the presence of their animal companions. Her deepest wish is to support connection and harmony as we open to the many dimensions of our humanity. www.rainbowslight.com

Invitation from Gregg....

“Our western culture lacks adequate systems or rituals to help us process grief & loss. Many people are uncomfortable with our grieving, which leads us to "hold it together" for our families and peers. This often results in isolation, preventing us from receiving the support necessary to navigate the full journey of grief and loss.

I once heard from a Native American elder that we require at least a year to grieve a loss, as each season carries its own set of memories.

I experienced the loss of numerous friends to AIDS during the 1980s and 1990s. There was a moment when I felt overwhelmed by the thought of enduring another death. In my 20s and 30s, I was grappling with my own mortality far too soon, and my fear of dying from AIDS was becoming unbearable. This experience inspired me to establish my first workshop at AIDS, Medicine and Miracles, a conference organized by Marianne Williamson and Dr. Bernie Siegel. With the encouragement of fellow participants in the creative workshops, I was able to express my emotions and tap into the profound mystery of life.

Navigating through the cycles of grief has deepened my connection to my heart, spirit, and the essence of all creation. Grief can serve as a pathway to recognizing the interconnectedness and timelessness of our existence, helping us uncover our true Essence. This gift is more fully embraced through our connections with others and the natural world. The elements of earth, fire, water, and air can guide us on this journey, provided we are open to receiving their wisdom. If you’ve faced recent losses or have experienced multiple losses without the necessary support, consider joining us on the stunning island of Kaua’i.”
